World Laughter Day 2010

2 May 2010

Sending a big, joyful hug of laughter around the world!

See the map below for what’s happening in your area or information about holding an event yourself! The more the merrier!

World Laughter Day was first observed on January 11, 1998, in Mumbai, India.

The date was later changed to the first Sunday in May.

It was started by the creator of Laughter Yoga, Dr. Madan Kataria with the objective of laughing for World Peace.

Now, laughter clubs in over 60 countries laugh at around 12 o’clock local time on this day sending a massive wave of laughter around the globe!

Laughter unites us and is universally understood – it connects people, breaks down barriers and promotes positivity, better health and happiness.

"When You Laugh - You Change - When You Change - The Whole World Changes"
- Dr Madan Kataria

WHAT GOES ON Typically, World Laughter Day celebrations include the reading of a message from Dr Kataria, a laughter session with simple, inclusive and very enjoyable laughter exercises and techniques, and possibly a picnic, party, games, music or face-painting. Everyone is welcome to attend regardless of age, experience, fitness or mobility, and the more the merrier!

LAUGH YOUR HEAD OFF! With busy schedules, pressures, demands, and sometimes stressful lives, laughter often takes a back seat. This is a day when everyone can make laughing their top priority, giving their own minds and bodies a massive boost and sending a very positive dose of laughter energy out into the world!
